Magical views of Panarea from a large
villa with pool and garden

Salina, Aeolian Islands

Conveniently located on the fringe of Santa Marina, Salina’s main port and village (with a fine choice of bars, boutiques and restaurants), this large whitewashed villa is set on three floors. From the entrance gate there is a lift to the first floor – with a garden, the swimming pool, a changing room and a small bedroom (named Alicudi, for the smallest of the Aeolian islands) with ensuite bathroom…

From here a traditional stone staircase climbs to the second level, where four more bedrooms — all named after Aeolian islands — open onto a courtyard with a small lawn. Filicudi is spacious, with a small living room, bathroom and private terrace; Vulcano likewise has a small living area and bathroom, and is decorated with naive murals; Lipari is a double room with twin or double bed and bathroom, and opens onto a covered patio; and Panarea is housed in a little tower, and comprises a double bedroom with bathroom and panoramic terrace accessed by an external flight of steps. From here, another flight of steps leads up to the upper floor, entirely surrounded by a covered terrace. Inside is the lounge (with fireplace), the dining area and a fully equipped kitchen. The covered terrace leads onto a spacious open terrace, with outdoor dining and relaxing areas and fantastic views of Panarea and Stromboli.

We like

There are very few villas with pools on Salina — a particular advantage when the currents bring in jellyfish. The views are wonderful — get up early to watch the sunrise, and be sure to be on the terrace at sunset as well — the sun sets on the other side of the island, but the reflections on the cliffs of Panarea create some fantastic light effects! The villa is located in easy walking distance of both Santa Marina (the main port) and the sea.

We think

This is a roomy villa, where all of the rooms are ensuite, so would be ideal for a group of friends, or for a couple of families with children. There is even an extra room with bunkbeds, that be can added for a small extra charge.
