The house itself is suffused with the kind of aristocratic elegance that can never be faked — impeccably laid tables set with rare embroidered linen, silver and porcelain; liveried staff; and beautiful floral displays. The history of San Giuliano (which retains its core as a 15th century masseria) is evident, but this is a house where tradition and modern comforts are pefectly blended. Interiors may be gloriously grand, but they are also very comfortable. The grounds include a large swimming pool. San Giuliano is conveniently located half way between Catania and Siracusa, 15km from the sea at Brucoli. The house consists of a central building opening onto a large courtyard. Adjoining the central building is the grand and splendid family chapel. Within are a series of elegant, beautifully presented and welcoming reception rooms with vaulted ceilings and original pavements. There is also a gracious dining room, and a separate TV room, kitchen and bathrooms. An elegant staircase leads to the upper floor with five bedrooms with five bathrooms opening off a long corridor. There are three further bedrooms with three bathrooms that have direct access to the courtyard. The house is surrounded by an idyllic park, landscaped like a dream and full of rare and exotic plants, secluded corners for quiet conversations, an outdoor dining area and even a jewel of a secret garden. There is also a large swimming pool with shower and changing rooms and a tennis court.

We like

Just breathing in the atmosphere of this villa, and enjoying the superb, effortlessly professional service. The truly excellent house cuisine Going for a stroll in the gardens, breathing in the perfumes and admiring the incredible colours of the exotic and rare plants — it really is incredibly beautiful! The fascinating tastings of the estate wine, guided by the estate wine-maker. Helping with the olive harvest in autumn. Taking a private trip aboard a sailing boat to swim and snorkel the limpid seas of the Plemmirio marine reserve — and sampling local produce as you float.

We had a fantastic week here!

July 26, 2016

We had a fantastic week here, with out family — all 14 of us. We swam, relaxed, toured the island, sailed, and took a ton of photographs. We also ate very well. It was a great vacation… Ben and Laura Rockland, Delaware

What a trip! And what a treat to stay at your magnificent home! We could not have imagined a more picturesque vacation — from the citrus grove and tropical gardens, to cool dives in the pool on hot afternoons, and the many meals in your candlelit grotto, our week here was utter perfection thanks to your generous hospitality. We hope to be back soon!

Things to do

Villa San Giuliano is located in a central position, between Catania and Siracusa and it is a perfect starting poit to visit the south – east area of Sicily.

  • The nearest beach ( Agnone bagni) is about 2,4 miles driving from the villa.
  • The island of Ortigia (Siracusa) now linked to the mainland by a short bridge, was the first part of Siracusa to be settled, and is today a jewel of Sicilian Baroque, though also retaining fascinating traces of its ancient Greek and medieval past.
  • The most interesting area on the mainland is the archeological zone, which includes one of the largest Greek theatres in Italy, whose excellent acoustics you will experience if you manage to attend the annual season of ancient Greek drama.
  • The incredible Baroque towns of the Val di Noto (also with UNESCO world heritage status)
  • The captivating nature reserve, L’Oasi di Vendicari.
  • Wine tasting and visit at Buonivini of Planeta winery.
  • The fisherman village of Marzameni.
  • The Baroque Historic centre of Catania.
  • Etna Volcano and Taormina about  one hour driving
