Villa built into bare rock
above a sandy beach.

The loving attention to detail in this beautiful villa built into the bare rock above a quiet sandy beach near Cefalù, is quite outstanding. The villa is entirely of local stone and has been restored by owners who wanted to retain the rustic character of the original building. Bare rock juts through the walls and the original layout of the rooms has been preserved. The views from La Playa and its garden stretch across a crystalline sea that seems close enough to touch to the dramatic fortress that crowns Cefalù. Within the lush garden in a lovely welcoming living space with din-ing area, BBQ and outdoor kitchen

Interiors are beautifully designed and maintained. On the garden level there is a comfortable, fully equipped kitchen, a spacious living-dining room, a bathroom, and a reading room with a magnificent window that frames the sea like a living painting. Steps from the living room lead up to a comfortable double bedroom with ensuite bathroom, and a mezzanine with a TV room on one side, and, to the other, a double bedroom and the master bedroom with panoramic views from its balcony. The rooms on this side share a very unusual bathroom with a shower in a cave and a wash ba-sin carved from rock. USEFUL INFORMATION The owners have arranged for guests to have access to the beach from a gate in a private garden, 50 metres away down the quiet road that leads to Sant’Ambrogio, from where a little tunnel leads straight onto the beach. The beach has two lidos, both with a bar and restaurant, where you can hire sunloungers and umbrellas.

We like

This is a much-loved, instantly welcoming house in a fantastic position. The beach is so close that we never miss having a swimming pool. It is the kind of house where every detail has been thought of — we loved the feel-ing that ever single piece of furniture had been chosen with love! The exposed rock is beautiful warm golden sandstone — we adore the bathroom with the shower in the cave! We love being close enough to Cefalù for shopping, sightseeing, restaurants and evening strolls, but far enough away to forget the rest of the world! We liked exploring the Madonie mountains, and sampling the local mountain cuisine in country restaurants.

We think

Villa La Playa will suit a family or group of friends who want a comfortable and beau-tiful house with lovely garden close to a beach. With heating and a fireplace, this would also be a lovely villa for a winter or Christmas break.
