Sea-views in a 19th century
villa on Panarea
Papurina (‘poppy’ in local dialect) is located in Drautto, on the very edge of Panarea’s sole village, a short walk from Zimmari, the island’s only sandy beach. There are marvellous sea views, and for those who like pottering about in little boats, there are barchini for rent in Drautto’s miniscule rocky harbour. This exquisitely restored villa dates back to the 19th century, with majolica tiled floors and 6 metre-high ceilings with exposed beams

The privileged location, the olive grove, the terraces and beautiful views create a villa that is ideal for anyone who wants a refined, highly aesthetic villa in which to relax in peace and privacy. On the upper floor is an extremely well-equipped kitchen (perfect for those who want to hold dinner parties) and dining area, a living room, a double ensuite bedroom, and a large, furnished panoramic terrace where you can dine, or laze on the bisuoli, the built-in majolica tiled benches typical of Aeolian islands. On the ground floor there are three bedrooms (one double with a large bathroom, a twin with a Bisazza mosaic bathroom, and another twin with two French-style beds and a bathroom). They all open onto a typical Aeolian terrace furnished in Moorish style, lots of shady corners, and a shower created out of a 19th century Tuscan millstone. Below it is a small olive grove, and a flight of steps leading down to rocks from which it is possible to swim. The villa is exceptionally beautiful, and a really perfect place for a deeply relaxing holiday. Being able to swim from the rocks below is sheer heaven — we love the fact that you can stay here and have to see no-one! The interior design is outstanding — with a few, carefully selected pieces furniture, objects and art set off by the gleaming, and quintessentially Aeolian, whitewashed walls. It is easy to spend hours just looking at the art! We love that traditional features have been retained, such as built-in divans and niches, and like spending hours resting on the bisuoli, or benches, looking out over the olive groves to the sea. Although Zimmari beach is close by, it is wonderful to be able to avoid the crowds by hiring a little boat from nearby Drautto to explore the coast and islets.
This is an ideal villa for a group of friends or a grown up family. This is a villa for people for whom peace and quiet, beautiful views, and aesthetics are more important than having a pool. It is the perfect antidote for anyone living a hectic and stressed life.
Carissimo Fabrizio, ancora grazie di tutto. La casa era splendida, vista eccezionale, ci e’ piaciuta moltissimo. Panarea e gite altrettanto, una gran bella vacanza, nonoztante i costi. Ancora grazie di tutto
