Surrounded by gardens, Villa Ninfea is a little jewel set in a large country estate, overlooking a pretty ornamental lake surrounded by trees and semi tropical foliage. The villa has two separate blocks, and a romantic gazebo in the garden. The sleeping area (with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms) overlooks the lake, and the living area (with a large living/dining room and kitchen) has a delightful shady patio directly overlooking the swimming pool ( 4 x 7). In both the living and sleeping areas large windows provide plenty of daylight — and beautiful glimpses of the romantic surroundings

The property is furnished with extreme care, including important pieces of handmade ethnic furniture. The estate includes a further three villas from which Ninfea, however, is totally independent . Due to the proximity of the swimming pool and lake, children under 14 are not allowed. The villa does not have a dishwasher.

We like

Staying in a villa right on the shores of the little lake is a truly magical experience. The villa is small, but very well designed — we loved being able to walk straight from the shade of the patio into the swimming pool. We love being immersed in nature, and feeling apart from the world, and yet being a short drive from the enchanting temples of Selinunte and the endless sands of Triscina. Castelvetrano, the nearest town, is also fascinating. There are many local olive oil and wine producers whose estates can be visited, and who offer tastings. We love the cooking courses and vineyard tours at the marvellous Planeta winery.

We think

This is a small, but beautifully located villa, ideal for a couple or for a family with elder children.

Things to do

Some things not to miss in you are staying at the Villa Ninfea.

  • In July and August, the Orestiadi, an international festival of theatre, music, art and film, takes place among the ruins of Gibellina, a village destroyed by an earthquake in 1968.
  • The fantastically sited temples of Selinunte.
  • The historic town of Mazara del Vallo whose centre is reminiscent of an oriental kasbah – oh, and don’t miss the statue of the Dancing Satyr, discovered by fishermen, and now with its own dedicated museum.
  • The medieval town of Erice.
  • A day at Rocco Forte’s Verdura golf resort.
  • A day at La Pineta  at Marinella, a great lido with a very good restaurant.
  • Visits and tastings in the numerous wineries and olive oil farms.
