Rural simplicity on the
coastal reserve of Vendicari
In Sicilian dialect “Mannera” is a sheepcote and this villa has been sensitively restored to retain traces of its original use — a cactus garden has been created in the walled sheepfold, and the rooms where the shepherds would have slept have been turned into bedrooms. This is a minimalist renovation, and with its <b, is an ideal choice for a family or group of friends seeking a simple and practical rustic retreat.

There are four bedroom (3 ensuite) and a simple, typically Sicilian kitchen, which opens straight onto a terrace furnished for outside eating. As well as a living and dining room inside, there are shaded terraces for outside living, a spring water plunge pool (2m x 2m) and a roof terrace for sunbathing. The villa is a short walk from Vendicari’s famously photogenic Cala Mosca, and in easy walking distance of the reserve’s other beaches and saltwater lakes.
4 bathrooms ( two ensuite)
Well equipped kitchen
Patios with furnitures in the courtyard
Waking up at sunrise in the middle of August and going down to the exquisite cove of Cala Mosca before anyone else arrives. Coming to the villa in autumn or spring to see the migratory birds, including hundreds of pink flamingos, on Vendicari’s lakes. Cooling off in the plunge pool after a long evening walk along the coast. Popping into Noto to admire the Baroque architecture while eating ice cream. Discovering that there is a Roman Villa with amazing mosaics just up the road! It is called Tellaro! We chose Vendicari because we are keen walkers — but we found other great hikes as well nearby at Noto Antica, Pantalica and in the Cava Grande. We’re now going to come back to walk here every autumn!
This is a simple villa, best suited to families or a group of friends for whom the magic of living on one of Sicily’s most beautiful nature reserves is more important than high luxury.
