Villa Lahar
Contemporary villa with heated pool
and sea views on the slopes of Etna volcano
Lahar is located just outside the town of Trecastagni, high on the slopes of Mount Etna, Europe’s biggest and most active volcano. The villa is an oasis of calm, surrounded by a three hectare estate that slopes down towards the distant sea, planted with cherry, peach and pear trees and huge ancient chestnut trees. The sea, Catania and Taormina are all in easy driving distance.
The villa has been designed to be suitable for people of limited mobility.

Lahar is an inspired contemporary conversion of a traditional palmento or wine-pressing house (the volcano’s earth is exceptionally fertile, producing some of Sicily’s finest wines). The villa is modern and comfortable, with wonderful views from large windows. There is even a lift!
The heart of the house is a large open space on two levels, painted white and flooded with natural light. On the ground floor the living area blends harmoniously with a pleasant kitchen, while in the dining area the generously-sized table is perfect for dinners with big groups of family or friends. There’s also a conversation area with fireplace — the comfortable, colourful armchairs are ideal for a lazy afternoon’s reading or relaxing. Outside a large table shaded with umbrellas is perfect for outdoor dining on warm summer evenings.
A corridor leads to a sleeping area consisting of a suite with private bathroom and a further ensuite bedroom. A guest bathroom completes the first level of the open space.
There are three further bedrooms, all ensuite, on the upper floor, reached by the lift. Upstairs guests are also provided with a living area with kitchenette, small tables and wonderful panoramic views — a great space for catching up on work, or for having breakfast or fixing a snack without needing to go downstairs.
Outside, a row of cherry trees leads to the swimming pool and hydro-massage bath, both heated and both with panoramic views. As well as the cherry trees there is an orchard — guests are welcome to help themselves to whatever fruit is in season.
Close to the pool is a small wooden cottage housing a bedroom with bathroom and kitchen — perfect for older children or for anyone who wants their own space apart from the rest of the group.
An outdoor kitchen, BBQ and large dining table complete the pool area.
