Lying within a large garden within an extensive estate of olive and citrus trees, Villa La Coloniale is a comfortable, luxurious, and perfectly thought-out villa. Large windows make the lush garden feel part of the interior, and flood it with light, while outside, there are two shady porticos, one for dining and barbecues, the other for relaxing and conversation, overlooking the lawn, the beautiful azure swimming pool ( 6×11) and a romantic wooden gazebo. Views stretch down the valley as far as the sea…

From the private car park (with ample space for three cars) a brief flight of steps flanked by clumps of papyrus leads up to the simple, but elegant facade. Entering, you step into a welcoming living room with fireplace, furnished in ethnic style.
The four bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, are on the same level as the living room. There is also a comfortable kitchen, whose huge window floods it with light.

We like

The lush, manicured garden, with lots of shady places to sit during the heat of the day — we loved the wooden fourposter gazebo with its cream linen curtains.
The views down the valley to the coast — especially at sunset.
The fireplace — perfect for a chilly spring or autumn evening.
Touring local vineyards and olive oils makers and tasting their produce.
Exploring the kasbah-like centre of Mazara del Vallo.

We think

Ideal country villa for anyone who loves a relaxing and peacefull atmosphere.

Things to do

Some things not to miss in you are staying at the Villa Coloniale.

  • In July and August, the Orestiadi, an international festival of theatre, music, art and film, takes place among the ruins of Gibellina, a village destroyed by an earthquake in 1968.
  • The fantastically sited temples of Selinunte.
  • The historic town of Mazara del Vallo whose centre is reminiscent of an oriental kasbah – oh, and don’t miss the statue of the Dancing Satyr, discovered by fishermen, and now with its own dedicated museum.
  • The medieval town of Erice.
  • A day at Rocco Forte’s Verdura golf resort.
  • A day at La Pineta  at Marinella, a great lido with a very good restaurant.
  • Visits and tastings in the numerous wineries and olive oil farms.
