Masseria on an country estate
with a 24 mt pool

A long avenue bordered with monumental olive trees heralds your arrival on this wonderful estate consisting of 40 hectares of ancient olive groves in the foothills of the Hyblaean hills. At its heart is a grand country villa, known as a masseria in Sicily, surrounded by an immaculate garden. The masseria, which dates back to the 18th century, belongs to an ancient family of Sicilian aristocrats, and has been sensitively restored, fusing the fascination of the original with fabulous contemporary touches — like the huge lava stone swimming pool.
Villa Hyblea is just a 20 minute drive from Ragusa, the most magnificent of the Sicilian Baroque towns protected by the UNESCO World Heritage list. It’s also about 30 minutes drive from the sea — choose between the organised beaches of Punta Secca and Marina di Ragusa, or the wild beaches of the Cava Randello nature reserved. For anyone who loves golf, the famous links of Donnafugata, are 20 minutes away.

Access to the villa is through an ancient fortified arched gateway, beyond which is a lovely — and fragrant — courtyard planted with palms, lemon trees, jasmine and geraniums. Two of the bedrooms — both with ensuite bathroom — have direct access to this courtyard. To the left it is the entrance to the main house, which has three large suites on the ground floor, each with its own private living room with tea and coffee making equipment and small fridge, a double bed, ensuite bathroom and large wardrobe. Two both these have direct access to a furnished terrace overlooking an Italian garden.
A traditional stone staircase (and a lift) give access to the tower, with another double bedroom, with ensuite bathroom and panoramic views from its balcony. It also has its own little living room with another bathroom and private terrace.
A series of linked salons and an intimate little ‘salottino’ with fireplace, leads to a huge gallery with various conversation zones and a dining area.
There is access from the gallery to a large, recently created garden, with lawns, outdoor showers, swimming pool and two large solarium platforms with views of the Hyblaean Hills.

We like

The estate produces its own olive oil — EVO — sold in high-end delicatessens all over the world. We love that the rooms are huge and comfortable — this villa is perfect for anyone seeking peace and tranquility.
Walks among the olive groves are just magical — especially in the early morning or as the sun is setting. The pool is amazing — you really can work out.
We loved being able to have dinner in the garden, prepared for us by the hosts. Ragusa has an amazing concentration of Michelin starred restaurants to experience, but also fantastic local produce.
We adored the wine tastings organised for us by the hosts at Valle dell’Acate, Gulfi and Planeta. The Baroque architetture of Ragusa Ibla, Modica, Scicli and the places made famous by Inspector Montalbano are just incredible to explore.

We think

Ideal for families, with or without young children, and groups of friends who want a relaxing holiday in  a peaceful location  a short drive from the coast. Also perfect for anyone who loves good food and wine — the Ragusa area is one of the most renowned enogastronomic zones in Sicily. Also a great choice for serious swimmers and golfers!
