Contemporary retreat with breathtaking
views and a Zen atmosphere
Ciatu is a beautiful minimalist villa with a Zen-like feel, located by the magical coastal nature Reserve of Vendicari. The reserve, which runs along the coast between Noto and Pachino, is one of the loveliest in Sicily, famous for its romantic duny beaches, wildlife — including migrating flamingos — and wild landscapes whose colours shift with the light. Ciato means breath in Sicilian dialect, a name chosen by the owner to encapsulate the power of the landscape and villa to take the breath away of anyone who comes to stay.

The villa sits on a hill immersed in private groves of almond and olive trees, with views stretching over typical Sicilian countryside along the coast and back to the Baroque town of Noto.
The minimalist interior is designed to recall the atmosphere and layout of a rural Sicilian house, pared down to essentials, with an intelligent eye on the aesthetics of texture, space and volume. It is the perfect setting for a judicious selection of mid-century and modern furniture, and the owner’s striking collection of contemporary art.
The villa consists of three separate structures on different levels united by the swimming pool and the external spaces — all of them designed for outdoor living.
On the ground floor of the main building is a large and luminous open space with a well-equipped kitchen, living room with fireplace and conversation area, and a study and music zone. There is also a guest bathroom and utility room. Throughout there are huge windows designed to make the most of the views.
The first floor can be accessed by either an internal or external staircase. Here there is the master bedroom, with walk-in wardrobe and a bathroom with a spacious separate shower room.
The second structure lies close to the swimming pool, and comprises a double bedroom, a walk-in wardrobe, a bathroom with shower and a small private terrace.
The third building has a private terrace with a double bedroom, walk-in wardrobe and a bathroom with shower.
The grounds are extensive, largely given over to almond and olive groves, with a garden area around the villa planted with succulents, cacti and prickly pears, and enclosed by drystone walls. Terraces roofed with traditional bamboo ensure plenty of shade, and the garden furniture is contemporary, elegant and refined. There is an exquisite infinity pool, a barbeque area, and a large table perfect for lazy summer lunches and dinners — with wonderful views on all sides.
