Find out more

Villa Cariddi is located on a clifftop looking over the Strait of Messina to the coast of Calabria, surrounded by 10 hectares of citrus groves.
The villa began life in the early 1900s as the country seat of the Marchese Calamarà, but has since been completely renovated, though its original charm remains intact.
Villa Cariddi is laid out on three levels: on the ground floor is the kitchen and – occupying the original palmento, or grape-crushing room – a breakfast room with panoramic views from its terrace.
A lift connects it with the upper floors.
The upper floors are quintessentially Sicilian in style, with fine Classic furniture, frescoed ceilings and original floors (all beautifully restored).
On the first floor are several intimate salotti, or parlours, and a large dining room with spectacular views over the Strait of Messina to Calabria, and direct access to the garden, with infinity pool, and a wooden ‘stage’ set between the lawn and the cliff, which is an spectacular location for parties or al fresco lunches and dinners.
There are also five bedrooms on the first floor with ensuite bathroom, each opening onto the panoramic terrace.
On the second floor is a ‘grande suite’ with a private terrace overlooking the swimming pool and sea, while the junior suite and a further bedroom share a terrace set right above the cliff. There is also a pleasant ‘conversation zone’.
All three floors are connected by a lift, and by external and internal staircases.

We like

Living within a beautiful landscape with fantastic sea views to be enjoyed from morning to night – from your first coffee of the day, to the last sip of vodka!
That the villa is close enough (30 minutes drive) to Taormina, to spend the occasional evening enjoying Sicily’s liveliest summer movida.
Lounging by the pool at night sipping a drink and marvelling at the incredible peace.
That the sea is just a few minutes’ drive away.
Visiting Mount Etna and exploring the Alcantara Gorge

We think

Ideal for groups of friends who want to relax with amazing sea views. An ideal place for a celebration.

Things to do

  • An evening stroll around Taormina.
  • Visit hill villages used as locations during the filming of Francis Ford Coppola’s Godfather movies (Savoca).
  • Explore the extensive and fascinating remains of Sicily’s oldest Greek colony at Giardini Naxos – and don’t miss the wonderful museum.
  • Explore Mount Etna with a private guide. Whether you want to explore in a jeep or on foot, we can’t emphasise how much more you will get out of a trip to Etna in the company of someone who understands its volcanology, geology and history.
  • Explore the Alcantara valley, formed by the Alcantara river carving its way through lava deposited by the eruption of Monte Moia around 2400BC. There are lots of ways to explore, ranging from the gentle riverside walks from Francavilla di Sicilia, to river-trekking and canyoning.
  • Visit the the little hilltown of Castiglione di Sicilia, for its weathered houses, pantiled roofs and stunning views across the valley to Etna. Don’t miss the local cheesemakers, Alcantara Formaggi, on Via Federico II.
