Find out more

The villa has two floors, connected by a open wooden staircase. Huge windows guarantee lots of light, and give lovely views over the patios, pool and garden. On the ground floor there is a large living and dining room with a fireplace, a well-equipped kitchen, an office and three bedrooms, including the master bedroom which has a large ensuite bathroom with two washbasins, bath and shower. On the upper floor there is another ensuite double bedroom, with its own private terrace and a small living room with fireplace.
The outdoor spaces are very pleasant and beautifully organised with a conversation zone at the front of the house, and another spacious patio set with divans, chairs and tables, overlooking the pool at the back. A little gazebo next to the kitchen is ideal for breakfast.
Although Villa Azzurra is close to the beach, the surrounding neighbourhood is quiet — even in high season, when Mondello is at its busiest!

We like

The garden — your own luxuriant oasis, with lots of shady terraces for the hottest hours of the day.
The villa is really comfortable, and the two fireplaces mean that it is a good choice for a low season holiday as well.
The suite on the upper floor, with its own terrace and little living room, is perfect for anyone who likes peace and quiet.
The proximity to Mondello’s beach and lively seafront makes it an ideal choice for families with teenage children who want some independence.
Palermo is in easy reach for a morning’s or afternoon’s shopping or sightseeing

We think

This is an ideal villa for a group of friends, or a large family

Dear Ottavia

Now I have a few moments to write to you and thank you for your excellent attention to all our requirements. I cannot think of one thing that could have made your service better. You did indeed do the maximum!! I will certainlytell our friends where to contact you if they wish a holiday in Sicily.

I will not bother you with one or two small problems with the villa. I told Patricia about them when we left. Overall the villa and pool were great. We had a lovely time in Sicily once I had learned the rules of driving…..oh there are no rules!!!!!!

Thanks also to Fabrizio

Things to do

Some things not to miss in you are staying at the Villa Azzurra.

  • Mondello’s most striking and characteristic buildings are the Liberty or Art Nouveau villas built by the wealthy and aristocratic Palermitani of the early 20th century.
  • Monte Pellegrino, overlooking the bay of Mondello, was considered to be the most beautiful promontory in the world by the poet Goethe.
  • the Sanctuary of Saint Rosalia, Palermo’s much-venerated patron saint.
  • the Parco della Favorita, onetime hunting reserve of the Bourbon royal family, The park includes a Chinese-style Casina. Also bordering the park is the Villa Niscemi (whose owners also donated land to the King), evocatively described in the book These Happy Summer Days by Fulco di Verdura. The villa can be visited.
  • The natural reserve of Capo Gallo
  • The historic centre of Palermo, one, togheter Rome and Barcellona; the largest in Europe
  • Marvel at the Palazzo dei Normanni, home to the most splendid court in medieval Europe, with the sumptuous jewel-box-like mosaics of Cappella Palatina at its heart.
  • Visit the Galleria Regionale della Sicilia at Palazzo Abatellis, where highlights include a haunting white marble portrait bust of Eleanor of Aragon by Francesco Laurana, and a fine collection of works by Sicily’s greatest artist, Antonello da Messina
