Mondello is Palermo’s most popular summer resort, for its proximity to the city, and its golden sands, fabulous climate, Belle Epoque architecture and crystal-clear sea. It lies about 7km from Palermo in a bay between Monte Gallo e Monte Pellegrino, and was developed as an elegant summer resort around a small fishing village in the early 20th century. These days Mondello attracts visitors of all social levels, and the old fishing village in its heart, is full of small shops, bars, pubs and restaurants serving fabulous fresh seafood. In recent years a number of lidos have opened aimed at day-trippers.
